After School & Summer Camp Programs

History

In 2009, City School Atlanta established a home school academy that provided a superior education to middle and high-school children in one of the highest poverty-stricken neighborhoods in Atlanta. During the fall, winter and spring seasons, children spend more waking hours at school than at home, so the school decided to offer wraparound services (Afterschool Programming, Dinner, and Summer Camp). City School Atlanta continues to provide these teens with a scholastic platform and positive influences that will increase their odds of success in life and their ability to transform their community. In 2013, City School Atlanta began the school year in its current location, a 10,000+ square-foot education center located at 1300 Joseph E. Boone Boulevard NW.

In 2021, the Career and Technical Education Program was launched in partnership with Atlanta Technical College and local businesses to offer dual enrollment, apprenticeships, internships, and soft-skills training.

We exist to teach, train, and transform the youth of Atlanta.

After School Program

Our neighborhood lacks opportunities for children to participate in extracurricular activities such as art, music, and athletics. Quality after-school programming significantly increases academic performance while reducing crime and risky behavior and provides students with a safe and inviting atmosphere to pursue their interests. Engaging our students for the entire day encourages them to maintain focus and ensures they are involved in a productive lifestyle. Every student participates in the three-hour after-school program Monday through Friday during the school year.

After-School Funders

The after-school program is funded through the generosity of many individuals, corporations, and private foundations.

Funding is provided in part by the Fulton County Board of Commissioners under the guidance of the Department of Community Development.

Summer Camp

Our Summer Camp prevents students from spending the summer in unstructured homes that lack opportunities and positive influences. Unfortunately, idle minds and bodies translate to insufficient academic retention and destructive behavior. Students who are actively involved in summer programming are proven to perform better the following school year. Our Summer Camp is a continuation of the enriching activities provided in the Academy and after-school program and spans over 8 weeks in the summer. It emphasizes peer relationship development, soft skills, and self-confidence. All City School students take part in our summer programming.
